6:39Now PlayingLabour MP Phillip Brickell defended the decision by his party's governing body to block Andy Burnham from standing as MP - as it could cost "£4.7m to hold a mayoral by-election." He said the party "now needs to move forward".
The prime minister "is not scared of Andy Burnham - Burnham is a fantastic mayor for Greater Manchester, he is doing a great job," he added.
"If Andy wanted to come back to Manchester, I don't know why he didn't do that in 2024 when there were lots of new Labour MPs who stood for election - who came to Westminster for the first time."
