Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked the EU to provide Ukraine with a "clear date" for its accession to the bloc.

Without such a date or guarantee, Vladimir Putin would find a way to block Ukraine from joining by dividing the EU, the Ukrainian president told members of the EU parliament during a speech via video link.

After the start of the war, the EU had granted Ukraine candidate status for its accession to the bloc but negotiations to join typically take years.

Zelenskyy also thanked the EU for its "firm position" against Russia's aggression "for all those years".
