The White House says Donald Trump is looking at a proposal put forward by Pakistan calling for the US and Iran to agree to a two-week ceasefire.

The US president warned on Tuesday that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran failed to meet his 1am BST deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran says it will ramp up attacks on its Gulf neighbours if the US strikes its power plants.
