Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has accused Sir Keir Starmer of "misleading" parliament over the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the US.

It comes after The Guardian reported that Lord Mandelson failed his security vetting clearance prior to being given the role, but that the decision was overruled by the Foreign Office.

Mandelson was sacked in September 2025 after further details emerged about his links to the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Mandelson has previously denied any wrongdoing in regard to his relationship with Epstein.
