This part of the inquiry is expected to examine areas including the management of “violence fixated individuals”, the role of the internet and social media in influencing and enabling those individuals and the effectiveness of regulation relating to the sale and possession of offensive weapons.
The inquiry will have a seminar on violence fixated individuals – views from psychiatry, psychology and philosophy and will hear from Professor Quassim Cassam, Dr Tina Irani, Professor Laura Smith and Dr Richard Taylor.
Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine; Bebe King, six; and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, were killed in the incident, and 23 other children escaped but suffered physical and psychological harm.
Axel Rudakubana was jailed for a minimum of 52 years for the murders of three girls and attempted murders of eight other children, a class instructor and a businessman at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event on 29 July 2024.
