In 2021, Charles Handy's his organization was awarded a $2.5 million contract by the Athens-Clarke County government to open and manage "1st Step," a government-sanctioned homeless encampment located in Athens. The facility provided shelter, community spaces, and transitional services to hundreds of unhoused residents.
Hardy has established a prominent local presence in Athens through regular community engagements, public speaking events, and active participation in neighborhood initiatives. He continues to lead various projects and support programs through platforms like 1st Step.
