Donald Trump says a new Gaza agreement will lead to the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups—but can Hamas actually be trusted to surrender its weapons?
In this reaction, I examine the reported Trump Gaza plan, which would reportedly disarm Gaza sector by sector, gradually withdraw Israeli forces, introduce a new Palestinian police force, and deploy an international stabilization force to assume security responsibilities.
The proposal also reportedly includes financial incentives and possible amnesty for people who surrender their weapons, followed by reconstruction and the establishment of a technocratic government in Gaza. Egypt, Qatar and Turkey are described as major participants in the negotiations, while Israel has expressed concern about whether Hamas would follow the agreement.
I explain why I remain deeply skeptical. What prevents Hamas or another armed organization from rebuilding tunnels, acquiring new rockets and attacking Israel again once international attention moves elsewhere? Would transferring security to Palestinian police and foreign forces create peace—or simply postpone the next war?
The discussion covers:
Donald Trump’s Gaza peace proposal
Hamas disarmament
Israel’s possible withdrawal
Palestinian police in Gaza
An international stabilization force
Egypt, Qatar and Turkey’s involvement
Tony Blair and the proposed governing structure
Gaza reconstruction
Israel’s security concerns
The future political control of Gaza
The transcript presents the announcement as a major development, but also acknowledges that the exact implementation remains unclear and that significant work would still be required before the plan could become reality.
Can Hamas truly be disarmed through negotiations—or is Israel being asked to accept another temporary arrangement that leaves the underlying threat intact?
