In July 2021, Chris was hospitalized with Legionnaires Disease, a deadly waterborne bacterial disease. In 20142016, Flint had the largest outbreak of Legionnaires Disease in American history, killing potentially over 100 people, according to PBS (some experts believe it could have been more). Individuals typically contract Legionnaires from shower water or cooling systems like air conditioner. When Chris Thornton contracted the disease in July 2021, he was not using his air conditioningbut was showering 34 times a day. During his hospitalization for Legionnaires, the CDC contacted Chris. When he told the agency the source had to be Flint's city water, the official ended the conversation and never followed up with himindicating the agency did not investigate ANOTHER potential Legionnaires Disease outbreak in Flint.
