Amazon Labor Union Organizers SUE to Remove President Christian Smalls, Force New Election

Jordan Chariton interviewed Tristian Martinez, a worker at Amazon JFK8 on Staten Island that was part of the Amazon Labor Union that organized to win the historic first unionized Amazon in America in April 2022 (led by president Christian Smalls, who was illegally fired from Amazon in 2020 in retaliation for organizing for safer conditions during the pandemic). Since their 2022 victory, 40 organizers from ALU have splintered off over disagreements with Smalls and other members of the executive board and formed the A.L.U. Democratic Reform Caucus. On July 10th, the reform caucus filed a lawsuit to try and force a new leadership election for the role of president of ALU (with the goal of removing Smalls as president). Status Coup reached out to Smalls and offered an opportunity for an interview to get his side of the story. He did not take us up on it. In response to the lawsuit and the 40 organizers who splintered off and have been organizing separately as a reform caucus, Smalls told Status Coup: "It’s Racist!"
