The political left from democratic socialists to Stalinists, to anarchists tells the story of the Paris Commune. It was a radical experiment in democracy in the late 19th century. For two months these people fought overwhelming forces. At the same time, they tried to build the society of their dreams. Since the fall of the commune, those on the political left, from Karl Marx, to Noam Chomsky have claimed it as a foundational myth.
