Bernie Sanders tears into Donald Trump’s illegal invasion of Venezuela, warning that the president has no constitutional right to unilaterally take the United States into war or “run” another country. Sanders calls Trump’s attack on Venezuela a brazen violation of international law and rank imperialism aimed at controlling Venezuela’s oil reserves and reviving the old Monroe Doctrine in Latin America.
He argues that Trump’s Venezuela war will not make America safer and will instead give a green light to other countries that want to invade nations, seize resources, or topple governments. Linking this reckless adventurism to the same logic used by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, Sanders warns that normalizing illegal invasions undermines global security and democracy.
At the same time, 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, health care is collapsing, housing is unaffordable, and artificial intelligence threatens millions of jobs here at home. Sanders says it is time for Trump to focus on the real crises facing working people in the United States and end the era of endless wars and military interventions abroad.
In this Political Voices Network clip, Bernie demands that Congress pass a War Powers Resolution to stop Trump’s illegal military operation in Venezuela and reassert its constitutional authority over war and peace. Trump campaigned on “America First” and claimed to be the peace candidate — Sanders says this Venezuela attack proves he is failing at his job to run the United States, let alone Venezuela.
