Iran’s new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, used his first public statement to order Gulf Arab states to “shut down” U.S. military bases amid the escalating war with the United States and Israel. He claimed Washington’s promises of security were a “lie” and urged regional governments to clarify whether they stand with America or Tehran. Khamenei, who replaced his father after he was killed in initial strikes, also endorsed continuing to use the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage and hinted at opening new fronts where U.S. forces are vulnerable. He vowed sweeping revenge for every Iranian killed in U.S. and Israeli operations, saying each death adds another case to Iran’s “file of revenge.”
