Detente in Urdu/Hindi

Détente is a French word that means “Relaxation”. This term is commonly used in the cold war which was between two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. In the cold war, détente means easing the political situation through verbal communication. The main advocate of Détente was American president Richard Nixon whose foreign policy was highly based on Détente. There are three main things in Détente. SALT 1, SALT 2 and Helsinki Accords. These were the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. SALT 1 was signed in 1972 and SALT 2 was negotiated between 1972-79 but in the end, never ratified by the United States senate. The main feature of these treaties was to reduce nuclear arms to its minimum level. There were also Helsinki Accords which were signed between July and Aug 1975. 35 countries ratified this. Sovereignty, Territorial integrity, freedom, human rights, and free election were some prominent features of it. Apollo-Soyuz's handshake in space is also considered to be part of Détente. Soviet invasion in Afghanistan marked the end of Détente. Also, the election of Ronal Regan was highly based upon the Anti-Détente stance who later became president in 1981. This was the end of Détente.
