Vietnam War in Urdu/Hindi

Vietnam War was fought between Communist North Vietnam and Anti-Communist South Vietnam. Soviet Union, China, and North Korea provided help to North Vietnam’s forces with Military, weapons, and soldiers. The most prominent ally of South Vietnam was the United States along with South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and other capitalist countries. The main reason for the war was to re-united Vietnam under the socialist ideology.

The war began shortly after France left Vietnam, dividing the country into two zones as described earlier. Ho Chi Minh was the main advocate of unification and was the main figure for the independence of Vietnam. The United States sent a large amount of military and weapons in South Vietnam to fight with the communist forces in the North. The war is also known as the proxy war in the Cold War era, where the sole purpose of the United States was to contain communism. Domino theory was the basis for the US. The formal involvement of the US came after the attack on US destroyer In the Gulf of Tonkin. After this Congress passed an act known as “Gulf of Tonkin Resolution” which gave president Johnson enough powers to conduct the war affairs. “Operation Rolling Thunder” was conducted on the advice of Johnson. William Westmoreland’s policy of Attrition was also failed. According to this policy of attrition, William wanted to kill as many enemy troops as possible. “Tet Offensive” is one of the major events of the Vietnam war. The Viet Cong attacked the South part in the hope that many locals will also join them. In the end, this proved strategically beneficial for Viet Cong. The United States public opinion about this war also changed after this offensive. My Lai Massacre in which US soldiers slaughtered almost 400 unarmed civilians. After these events, President Nixon came with the hope to bring out America from Vietnam war with honor “Peace with Honor”. He brought the policy of “Vietnamization” in which he tried to reduce the US military and transfer responsibility to South Vietnam forces.

The aftermath of this war was very deadly. In the end, 2 million Vietnam civilians were killed, 3 million wounded and another 12 million became a refugee. This war also damaged the country’s infrastructure. In 1976 Vietnam was unified under socialist ideology but violence remained there for another 15 years. In 1986 free-market policy was adopted and Vietnam started growing. During 1990s trade and diplomatic relation with the US was established. The US spends $120 Billion in this war. Almost 58,000 American soldiers have killed int this war.
