Six Points which were given by the Bangladeshi Leader Sheik Mujib UR Rehman were the main cause for the formation of Bangladesh. Initially, this was a movement in East Pakistan to get maximum Provisional Autonomy. On Feb 6, 1966, the opposition parties in West Pakistan announced that there will be a conference in West Pakistan to discuss the Post-Tashkent politics in the country. On Feb 4, Mujib UR Rehman reached in Lahore to participate in the meeting. On Feb 5, he announced his six points which were rejected by the committee to discuss. On Feb 6, he boycotted the meeting and then there started protests in the country.

The Six Points of Mujib UR Rehman Include:\

1. The demand of the true Federation on the basis of Lahore Resolution and Parliamentary form of Government.

2. Federal Government would exercise only two powers: Defense and Foreign Affairs. All other powers would be given to the federating units.

3. There will be two separate currencies for both of the wings. There will be a separate monetary system and a separate banking system for both countries.

4. The power of Taxation and Revenue collection would be given to the Federating Units.

5. There will be two separate accounts for foreign exchange reserves. There will be a constitutional provision which will allow the federating units to establish trade links with other countries.

6. East Pakistan should have its own currency. The Navy headquarter would be in East Pakistan

There are many reasons for the Six Points of Sheik Mujib UR Rehman, which include income inequality. From 1950 to 1970 there spent 11,334 Crores on West Pakistan and 4,593 on East Pakistan. GDP growth of West Pakistan was 4.4% and East Pakistan was 2.6%. almost 70% of export earnings were from East Pakistan. Only 15% of bureaucrats were Bangladeshi and their share in the military was only 10%. The population in East Pakistan was 72 million and in west 60 million in 1970. Now in 2019, the population of Pakistan is 220 million and Bangladesh is 168 million.
