YouTube Description
as posted by the channelZia Ul Haq was the 6th president of Pakistan and also the 6th Chief Martial Law Administrator. He applied martial law on 5 July 1977 and overthrow the elected government of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Zia came into power by promising that he will hold election within 30 days, but he never fulfills his promise. He was born in Punjab and fought in World War 2. He played a very major role in Soviet-Afghan war. During his time Pakistan enjoyed very warm relations with the United States of America. There came a huge amount of money from USA, especially from Ronald Regan's administration. The aid came through the “Operation Cyclone”. Through this aid, CIS provided Pakistan economic and military aid, which Pakistan used to train and alarm Mujahideen, who later used to fight in the Soviet-Afghan war. These Mujahideen used to come across the world voluntarily. Zia’s Islamization is most famous in Pakistan. This includes The Hudood Ordinance, Prohibition Order, Shariat Court. Blasphemy Laws, Zakat and Usher Ordinance, Riba, Land Reforms, Madrassa Expansion, Cultural Policies and policies about Women. Zia also held the referendum in 1984 to elect himself as the President. In 1985 he held nationwide elections on a Non-Party basis. Muhammad Khan Junejo was elected as the Prime Minister. He was from Sindh. Altaf Hussain was also promoted during Zia’s regime. The infamous Eighth Amendment was also passed by Zia, in which power to dissolve National Assembly was given to President. His economic policy was run by technocrats and professionals of different fields. During Zia’s time, Pakistan’s economic growth was 6.8%, the highest in the world at that time. His economic policies were opposite to Bhutto. Zia also consolidated Pakistan’s Nuclear program. He did Nuclear Diplomacy and kept the United States in a vague situation. Nuclear Proliferation was also done to divert the attention of the world from Pakistan. Due to difference over Geneva Accord and Ohjri Camp disaster, Zia and Junejo fell apart and in the end, Zia used his presidential power to dismiss the government of Muhammad Khan Junejo and announced for the next General Election. Before the next elections could take place, Zia died in a mysterious airplane crash in which 31 other than Zia also died. This includes the then ISI chief and United States Ambassador to Pakistan. His tomb is in Faisal Mosque.
