Nagorno Karabakh Conflict | Azerbaijan Armenia Conflict |

“Nagorno-Karabakh” is a disputed territory between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Internationally, “Nagorno-Karabakh” is considered to be a part of Azerbaijan. But, most of the population of “Nagorno-Karabakh” is an ethnic Armenian. This has created a permanent conflict between these two countries.

There is a long history behind this conflict which starts from the dissolution of the Russian Empire. In 1918 both Armenia and Azerbaijan got independence and soon conflict arose regarding the status of “Nagorno-Karabakh”. But, soon these countries came under the federation of the Soviet Union. USSR added the territory of “Nagorno-Karabakh” to the Azerbaijan region. And in this way, “Nagorno-Karabakh” became the permanent par of Azerbaijan.

But after the end of the Cold-War and at the time of the dissolution of Soviet Russia, the conflict arose again. In 1991, the regional parliament of “Nagorno-Karabakh” declared independence and called themselves as “Republic of Artsakh”. But at the international level, no country recognizes its independent status. In 1994, Russia broke a ceasefire between these two countries. But the problem did not resolve. In 2008 at the time of Mardakert clashed and at the time of the Armenian election problems arose. In 2016 both countries fought a four-day war.

Recently, on 27 September 2020, hostilities arose and both the countries declared Martial Law in their countries. Turkey sides Azerbaijan and Russia sides with Armenia.
