as posted by the channelThe executive branch is the part of the government that implements laws made by the legislature. This is the primary function of the executive. The executive in Britain means Queen or King. The executive in Pakistan and India means President. But there is a distinction between titular executive and real executive. The titular executive is the British monarch or in a parliamentary form of government, the president. The real executive in this form of government is the prime minister and its cabinet. Hence, the prime minister and its executive are the real executives in Pakistan and India.
There are different functions played by the executive in every country. This includes; internal administration, military functions, diplomatic functions, legislative functions, financial functions, judicial functions, administrative functions, and some other functions. It has been noticed in modern times that the powers of the executive are continuously increasing day by day. There are different reasons for this. Some of the important reasons for this includes; need for leadership, change in attitude, decline of legislature, delegated legislation, quantitative increase in governmental functions, the elected executive, party discipline, public opinion, modern wars, rise of dictatorships, and due to judicial functions.
The executive can be singular as well as plural. The single executive can be seen in the form of the United States president. He is the single executive and there is no one above him. On the other hand, the federal council of Switzerland consist of seven members. Each member of this council has equal powers. This is an example of a plural executive.
