What is Anarchism

Anarchism can be defined as “a doctrine which seeks to abolish political authority in all its form because it is unnecessary and undesirable for human individuality, liberty, and happiness.” Kropotkin is one of its biggest proponents. The word anarchism has been derived from the Greek word “anarchia” which means no rule. Hence, anarchism supports no rule.

There are few basic principles of anarchism. The anarchists do not believe in the state. They believe that the state should be abolished. The abolishment of state will end the political authority. And this will lead to the emancipation of individuals. The anarchists also believe in the abolition of private property. Lastly, the anarchists believe in the abolition of the religion.

As far as the method of anarchism is concerned, there are two main streams. One is philosophical and the other is revolutionary. The revolutionary anarchist believe that the state is heading towards the anarchist society and there is a need to speed up this process. Kropotkin believe that the free society of anarchism will be based on the voluntarily contracts. Similarly, all the property will be held in common.

Although, anarchism is important in the contemporary world, there are no big followers of this ideology. There may be some in the year 2024 or any other year, but the relative number of its followers are not so much great.
