YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThere will be a Presidential election in the United States on November 9, 2024. How the process of presidential elections unfolds in America is the subject of this video.
The election process in the United States starts with the primaries and caucuses. The primaries are the elections run by states to elect the potential candidates for the presidential election. On the other hand, the caucuses are closed-door meetings, sometimes open as well, by the political parties which elect the potential candidates to contest the final presidential election. Primaries and caucuses are held by the Democratic and Republican parties.
After the primaries, the delegates from each state meet in a national convention, where they vote according to the preferences shown by the state voters. Each party holds its national convention separately. In this convention, one candidate from each party is finalized to contest the election of president of the USA.
After this, the process of Elections starts. The Electoral College plays an important role in this process. There are 538 electors in the United States as of 2024. These electors cast a vote for the president after the initial election. Technically, people from each state vote for these electors who will then choose the president. However, due to the advances in mass communication, people know who the electors will vote for. Hence, the elections in the USA have become direct.
After the November 5, 2024 elections, the electors will meet on December 17, 2024 and cast their votes. On January 6, 2025, the Congress will count the votes. And on Jan 20, 2025, the new president of the United States, Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, will be inaugurated as the President of the United States.
This is how the president of the USA is elected.
There is a separate method to impeach the president of the USA. For this purpose, any member of the congress may start the movement. If the House of Representatives passes the impeachment resolution by a simple majority then the president will be impeached from the House of Representatives. After this, a trial will happen in the US Senate. Senate then, by a 2/3 majority will pass the impeachment movement. If this happens then the president will be formally impeached. This has never happened in the United States. Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump were impeached by the House of Representatives but they were acquitted by the Senate.
