Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess is an internationally recognized pioneer in the assessment and treatment of victims of trauma and abuse, and author of A Killer by Design: Murderers, Mindhunters, and My Quest to Decipher the Criminal Mind.

She has also worked with FBI Academy special agents to study serial offenders, and the links between child abuse, juvenile delinquency, and subsequent perpetration.
You know the super successful Netflix show Mindhunter about the FBIs first days of criminal profiling — she worked with the real-life agents the show is based on.
Dr. Jon R. Conte is a University of Washington professor and scholar whose area of expertise centers on mental health issues related to child abuse and trauma.
Conte joined the School of Social Work in 1990.
He’s a founding president of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, Conte was honored by the association in 2012 with the designation of professor emeritus for life. In 2009, he received the society’s Ron C. Laney Award for Distinguished Service. He is a lifetime member of the APSAC Board where he serves as a senior advisor.
Conte is the editor of the Journal of Interpersonal Violence and Trauma, Violence and Abuse: A Review Journal, and is the consulting editor for the Journal of Forensic Social Work..
