In today’s live stream on Syriana Analysis, Kevork Almassian is joined by Angelo Giuliano, a Swiss-Italian geopolitical and financial analyst currently reporting from Caracas. Angelo has been covering U.S. pressure on Venezuela, sanctions, oil and the regional power struggle from the ground.

We unpack the US military build-up and covert operations around Venezuela, Washington’s open support for the opposition and its push for a political transition away from Nicolás Maduro’s self-declared socialist, Chavista project.

We examine the real reasons for US meddling: control over Venezuela’s huge oil and gas reserves, punishment for Bolivarian “21st-century socialism”, and the goal of rolling back Russian and Chinese influence in Latin America. We look at the dire economic situation, how much is caused by government mismanagement, how much by sanctions, and what Maduro’s government could have done differently.

We also discuss why poor Venezuelans still side with the government despite hunger and hardship, and whether this loyalty is about ideology, clientelism, fear, or a deep mistrust of US-backed elites.

A key part of the conversation is the María Corina Machado phenomenon – the hardline, pro-US opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who promises to “bury socialism forever”, privatise the oil company PDVSA and realign Venezuela with Washington. Is she a genuine grassroots leader, or a carefully selected replacement for Maduro?

Finally, we look at the geopolitical repercussions for Latin America if Washington succeeds in reshaping Venezuela: what it would mean for Cuba, Brazil, Bolivia and the whole BRICS / multipolar project in the region.

🧠 In this episode, we cover:

• US military presence and covert activity around Venezuela

• Is Maduro’s government really “socialist” – and where it has failed or not

• Why many poor Venezuelans still back the Chavista camp

• The chances of a Washington-backed transition in Caracas

• María Corina Machado’s rise and her alignment with US strategy

• How a US “takeover” of Venezuela would reshape Latin America’s geopolitics
