30:32Now PlayingMayor Zohran Mamdani signed a new executive order on the city's sanctuary laws in an effort to strengthen protections for immigrant New Yorkers, and the public safety of all New Yorkers.
The mayor announced the executive order Friday morning at an interfaith breakfast.
"If faith offers us the moral compass to stand alongside the stranger, government can provide the resources," Mamdani said. "Let us create a new expectation of City Hall, where power is wielded to love, to embrace and to protect. We will stand with the stranger today, tomorrow and all the days that are still to come."
The executive order will implement a review of agency policies to ensure compliance.
