A fake poll in the Los Angeles mayoral race is raising major questions after the company behind it admitted the results were not genuine.
In this video, we break down the poll that showed Karen Bass leading Nithya Raman 50% to 39%, including the surprising claim that 85% of Spencer Pratt voters were moving toward Bass. The company behind the poll later described the project as a “social experiment” examining how unverified polling information could spread through the political information ecosystem.
Karen Bass’s campaign had shared the polling results before deleting its post after the poll was revealed to be fake. Her campaign responded by saying bad-faith attempts to influence elections should be investigated and prosecuted.
We also look at Spencer Pratt’s reaction, why he says the situation validates some of his concerns about polling, and the larger questions this raises about how political polls are vetted before being reported or promoted.
