27:15Now PlayingHarry talks with Pulitzer Prize winning historian and author Anne Applebaum about the recent surprise victory of a central coalition over the ruling autocratic/populist party in Poland. The autocratic regime had spent its time in power consolidating, largely unconstitutionally, its control of the levers of state power, in particular, the media and the judiciary. Nevertheless, a huge popular turnout delivered a solid victory to the Democratic coalition comprising three center-left and center-right factions. Applebaum breaks down the Polish election and then discusses the extent to it can be instructively compared to the US, and in particular what its victory might counsel the Democratic Party to do to defeat Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
