YouTube Description
as posted by the channelHarry speaks with Rogé Karma, staff writer at the Atlantic, about his recent article exploring the disjunction between Americans' perceptions of the country’s economic well-being, and the actual economic state of affairs. The last four years have brought a series of splendid developments for the economy, which is roaring compared with the relatively indolent economies in Europe, and has posted record job growth with low inflation and a 40% decline in economic inequality. Notwithstanding, Americans rate the state of the economy – although not necessarily their own economic well-being – as dramatically poorer than it is. There is a strong, tribal component to the disconnect, that has obvious political implications for the coming presidential election: Republicans are 2.5 times more likely to opine that the economy is doing poor, and their perceptions altered as soon as Biden took office. In their discussion, Karma evaluates possible contributing factors for the disconnect as well as prospects for perceptions to approach reality in the coming eight months before the election.
