They don't have a new album or a protest song about Trump. But I saw them again last night, and was reminded of Miller's great songwriting and performing chops, as well as the tightness of the entire band, which has been together as a foursome for 32 years. Hope you enjoy it.
Harry speaks with Rhett Miller, frontman for the Old 97's, his favorite indie band. The band, which has just released its 13th studio album, American Primitive, has stayed together through thick and thin for 30 years, churning out a long series of literate raucous gems. Miller talks about how Old 97's has consciously avoided the pressures and changes that have led to the demise of so many other bands, as well about how touring and the rock life have changed as the band grew up. In addition to being the singer songwriter for the band, Miller is also a solo performer, widely published writer, and podcast host; and he speaks thoughtfully about all those aspects of his life and work. A personal favorite 1-on-1 for sure.
