We spoke to the people at General Dynamics to get some details on their bid to replace the Army's M4 carbine and M249 SAW with a 6.8mm rifle that fires polymer-cased ammo.
The jump from the 5.56 to the 6.8mm ammo type means more energy at further distances. The bullpup design is a controversial approach. Each rifle will have a suppressor that is 3D printed. Check out our exclusive footage from the showcasing of the carbine at the DC expo.
This rifle is able to have a longer barrel while remaining short enough for the CQB requirements.
What do you think of this bid? Should the US Army go with a different prototype? Let us know your thoughts.
