Prigozhin’s Death is a Nightmare for Russia

There’s a claim that Wagner mercenary leader Prigozhin faked his own death via a plane crash with plans to resurface in central africa at a later date where he will build a massive mercenary army getting rich off the fuel resources. Only to make us all look like a bunch of dummies. That’s right, Prigozhin just played us like a damn fiddle. Oh wait, nevermind that's just the plot to Metal Gear Solid V the phantom pain.

Take a look at these two jets, can you tell them apart? Maybe you can if you’re an aviation sleuth. According to Reuters both of these planes are linked to the Wagner group, and both were flying identical routes the very same day and time that one crashed. RA02795 never made it from Moscow to St. Petersburg as we know, but according to flight data RA07248 completed its round trip. The operating company of the second aircraft, RA07248, said that there is no connection to Wagner - but this is contrary to other Russian media reporting. This has led to wild speculation that Prigozhin wasn’t on the plane that crashed.

We also know that Prigozhin thought of himself as a master of disguise. No one could match his stealth craft. When Russian authorities raided his offices in response to the June mutiny attempt, leaked photos showed multiple passports of Prigozhin under different aliases, wigs, and selfies of Prigozhin in disguise. We also know that he employs a “body double” and allegedly “[m]ultiple people changed their names to Yevgeny Prigozhin to help hide his travel and location.” The first question that comes to people's mind is why did Prigozhin seem so certain he wouldn’t get knocked off when everyone from President Biden to the collective consciousness of the internet were equally sure it would happen? Prigzohin likely overestimated his importance to Putin and thought he couldn’t be replaced. Taking him out even after he had been given public official reassurances to his safety also sends a direct message to Russia’s elites that they are unable to trust promises from Putin.

We have to understand that from inside Russia many people believe him to be a national hero akin to something like how General Patton is viewed as a hero in the United States. Meaning he might have believed this street credit would protect him. Meanwhile the Kremlin had spent the last 2 months changing all their Wagner venmo passwords so they would have no problem wiring money from their accounts in Africa.
