0:50Now Playing“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5)
Let’s pause here for a moment. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. What a powerful truth!
Life often feels like it’s surrounded by darkness, doesn’t it? Depression, anxiety, fear—they creep in like shadows, trying to consume the joy and peace we long for. It’s easy to feel lost in the overwhelming weight of it all. But here’s the thing: darkness is not permanent. And it cannot extinguish the light of Christ.
Jesus is your light, even when you can’t see it. He’s not just a light to guide you out of the darkness; He’s the light that sustains you while you’re in it. Depression and anxiety can make you feel isolated, like you’re walking through a tunnel with no end in sight. But the beauty of Christ’s light is that it’s not dependent on your circumstances or feelings—it’s constant. It’s unwavering.
When Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12), He didn’t mean that we wouldn’t face dark moments. What He promised is that, even in those moments, His light would never leave us. His presence is the hope that carries us through, the warmth that penetrates even the coldest nights of the soul.
Think about it: the same Jesus who was there in the beginning of creation, the One through whom all things were made, is the same Jesus who holds you now. He understands your struggles. He sees your pain. And He is with you in it—not standing at the end of the tunnel waiting for you to crawl your way out, but walking alongside you, illuminating each step you take.
In those moments when the darkness feels like it’s closing in, turn to Him. Let His Word remind you of who He is. “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
Jesus is the light that no darkness—not even depression—can put out. He is your hope when all feels hopeless. He is your guide when you don’t know the way forward. He is your strength when you feel like you can’t take another step. And no matter how deep the darkness may feel, it will never overcome Him.
Hold on to this truth, even if it feels hard to believe right now. The light of Christ is always there, always shining, always guiding. Open your heart to Him and let His light fill the spaces where darkness has tried to settle. Because even in the midst of your pain, Jesus is your light. Always.
