So why do we honor Mary and the saints? Because the Bible tells us to. Scripture says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). If we ask our friends here on earth to pray for us, how much more can we ask our brothers and sisters already perfected in Heaven to intercede before the throne of God?
Mary is not a goddess.
She is the Mother of God (Luke 1:43), full of grace (Luke 1:28), the first disciple who said yes to God’s plan and carried His Word made flesh. When we honor her, we are honoring what God has done through her.
She magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46)—and every time we draw near to her, she points us right back to Jesus.
The saints and Mary don’t compete with God. They glorify Him.
Their prayers join ours, forming one great chorus before His throne (Revelation 5:8). That’s not idolatry. That’s the family of God at work.
So the next time someone says Catholics worship Mary, remember this: we imitate her faith, we honor her obedience, and we ask her to pray for us as our spiritual mother (John 19:26–27).
