3:39Now PlayingDay six of the O Antiphons turns to O Rex Gentium, also known as O King of the Nations. In this ancient Advent prayer, the Catholic Church proclaims Jesus Christ as the true King who gathers what is divided and restores what sin has fractured. Rooted in the prophecies of Isaiah, the Psalms, and the vision of Daniel, O Rex Gentium announces a kingdom unlike any other, one founded on truth, unity, and sacrificial love.
As the Church approaches Christmas, this antiphon reminds us that Christ’s kingship is not about domination or power for its own sake. He reigns as Creator, Redeemer, and Cornerstone, forming one people from many nations and calling all hearts back to Himself.
In this video, we reflect on:
The meaning of O Rex Gentium in Scripture
Christ as King in prophecy and fulfillment
The Cornerstone who unites what is divided
The O Antiphon prayer for today
How to pray this antiphon during Advent
The O Antiphons are prayed from December seventeen through December twenty third during Evening Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours. Each antiphon names Jesus Christ using a prophetic title and leads the Church step by step toward Christmas.
If you are new to this series, be sure to watch the earlier videos where we unpack the history of the O Antiphons and how Catholics have prayed them for centuries.
I hope this reflection inspires you to surrender more fully to Christ the King and to trust His reign, especially in a world longing for peace and unity.
Be sure to check out the playlist where we unpack the Scriptures. This is where I walk through the Sunday Mass readings and where you will find all the videos in this O Antiphon series.
