Aaron Dean Sentenced: 11Y 10M 12D!

Aaron Dean, convicted last week of reckless manslaughter in the shooting death of Atatiana Jefferson, was sentenced by the jury today to a term of 11 years, 10 months, and 12 days.

The 10 months and 12 days is likely simply because the shooting occurred on October 12, of 2019--10/12.

So, an extra year, almost, for the month and date of the tragic event.  Justice. Good thing Dean wasn't responding to an apparent burglary in progress on New Year's Eve, I guess.

This was an unjust conviction--no rational jury properly informed of the law and evidence could have arrived at a conviction on the charge of reckless manslaughter, while also acquitting Dean of the murder charge on the grounds of self-defense--and by extension this is an unjust sentence.

But the State was relentless in lying to the jury about both the law and evidence, and sadly Dean's defense team did a pathetically bad job in defending their client.

This would have been a very different trial had I been consulting on this case.  Sadly for Dean, he got railroaded, and there was nobody to stop the train that ran him over.

On October 12, 2019, at 2:30AM then Ft. Worth police officer Aaron Dean responded to a call by a concerned neighbor for a welfare check on a home with the front door left open and the lights on.

While investigating around the outside of the home with a flashlight, Dean observed a person with a gun inside the home, just feet away. Dean ordered the person to drop the gun, then quickly fired a single shot. That single shot killed Atatiana Jefferson, who was in the home babysitting her 8-year-old nephew.

Within two days Dean had been charged with murder, and within four he had resigned his position as a police officer.
