A black man pulled over for running a red light informs the officers that he’s armed. They ask the entirely compliant driver to step out of his car so they can disarm him during the stop. He does so, places his hands on the roof of the car as instructed, and the female officer present removes his pistol from his waist.
Suddenly, BLAM! The driver’s pistol in the hands of the female officer discharges into the driver’s leg, causing serious bodily injury.
By all appearances this was a negligent discharge by the female officer, not a malicious shooting.
But how could this happen? Why was the driver being unnecessarily disarmed in the first place? What are the consequences for the cops involved? What’s the future for the driver?
