A woman is being beaten by a man standing near a car stopped in the middle of the road. A motorcycle rider immediately intervenes, shouting at the man to get his hands off her.
A moment later the rider points a handgun at the man, in a confrontation that has now escalated to deadly force.
Fortunately, the situation is resolved with no shots fired and nobody seriously injured.
But was the rider making legally-sound decisions when he chose to come to the rescue of an apparent damsel in distress? Was the rider making tactically-sound decisions? What risks—both legal and tactical—was the rider incurring, not just for himself, but for his wife and daughter riding their own motorcycles beside him?
