15:41Now PlayingLindsay Clancy's credibility is becoming one of the central fights in this trial. The prosecution's expert is now walking the jury through what he describes as a pattern of Clancy presenting one version of herself to the people around her while experiencing—or later claiming—something very different internally. That matters enormously when her insanity defense depends on the jury believing what she now says happened inside her mind.
In today's show, I examine evidence that Clancy previously concealed significant anxiety treatment and psychiatric medication from her future husband, sought treatment from multiple providers who apparently did not all know about one another, declined to take a medication recommended by several providers without apparently informing one of her doctors, and later gave descriptions of her condition that the expert says did not always match contemporaneous medical records. Most remarkably, Clancy herself reportedly used the word “fake” when describing how she could present herself as functioning normally around her family despite what she says she was experiencing internally.
The prosecution also confronted Clancy's claim that Spaulding Hospital failed to give sufficient attention to her mental health. The records showed that a psychiatrist, psychologist, and social worker met with her multiple times. I explain why these inconsistencies aren't merely attacks on Clancy's character—they go directly to whether the jury can trust her retrospective account of the mental state she now says made her legally insane.
