Come fall, Americans will once again be stuck with flavorless grocery-store tomatoes that are “pale imitations of dripping August heirlooms,” Sugar writes. Except this year, the tomatoes bound for grocery stores—which are mostly imported from Mexico—are stuck in President Donald Trump’s trade war.
Exactly what the tariffs will mean for grocery prices is hard to say, but any price increases will likely trickle down to the consumer—and whether Americans could even produce enough tomatoes to stock grocery stores year-round is another question entirely, Sugar reports at the link in our bio.
