9:36Now PlayingIn this portion of the interview Ben asks Lucy Flores about her campaign. He notes that Harry Reid had previously endorsed Ms Flores but in this race he is backing one of her opponents, asks about the fight ahead for her.
Lucy breaks down her advantages: she's lived in her district since she was 2 years old, she's represented a portion of her district as an Assemblywoman, and she enjoys name recognition from that race - which she won. Flores is also the only candidate that has been on the ballot in every county in the district.
Democracy for America, MoveOn.org, and PCCC (Progressive Change Campaign Committee) have all endorsed Flores. In the voting for MoveOn.org she won 64% of the vote from people in the district, in a 4-way race.
Recent polling has her 20 points ahead in the race, with her opponents spending nearly $500,000 combined in efforts to overtake her. Hers is a grassroots campaign, and it is WINNING.
Ben talks about this kind of race and candidate being the reason The Progressive army exists - to offer a megaphone to progressive candidates. Especially those running in local races.
