11:31Now PlayingI'm working on an article on this topic -- but two articles came out in the last twenty-four hours that poke HUGE holes in the economic anxiety narrative.
The first by 3 political scientists from UCLA, Princeton and UCRiverside. They concluded that voters who switched from Obama to Trump in 2016 were driven more by race than economic anxiety. You can find that article here
The second is the Marketplace.org/Edison Research study on economic anxiety. Today they released data showing that Americans have a record low of economic anxiety. But, wait -- what has changed for the working class since Trump took office?
It's almost as though their anxiety was either tied to the Black man in office OR this measure of economic anxiety did not control for the working class. Which means some of the people who were economically anxious in 2016 weren't even in the working class -- yet we've used this metric as a means of explaining the WWC support of Trump.
