as posted by the channelIf you look into a crowd of Proud Boys in Portland, you might see some Latino, Asian, or even Black faces, but that doesn’t make sense for a white supremacist group, right? We put this question to one of our guests at our Portland Live Show, civil rights strategist Eric K Ward.
When White nationalists enter a community, they exploit divisions that already exist between groups. What’s more, authoritarianism is very much in vogue these days. While the left was systematically dismantled between the 1940s and the 1980s, the extreme right wing was largely ignored by the state. This has allowed them the freedom to exist without fear of interference or internal sabotage, giving it the momentum we see today.
