as posted by the channelIf you were alive on 9/11, you probably remember where you were. What are your memories of that day, and did it change the trajectory of your life at all? Francesca was in New York City in her first year of college that morning, and spent the rest of the day donating blood and making sandwiches for healthcare workers.
The way we’ve been trained to ta;l about 9/11 is always laced with militaristic bombast and unquestionable thirst for vengeance. There is no space in our national discourse to grieve the losses that occurred on that day, without also inviting overt calls to inflict more death and destruction that ultimately make all of us less safe, and terrorize millions of people overseas. The U.S. has spent two decades doing just that. Attacking Afghanistan when Osama Bin Laden was Saudi Arabian. Attacking Iraq and Saddam Hussein when the country had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11 and much more to do with Dick Cheney’s stock portfolio.
It might help for us to remember 9/11 in more healthy ways if the people responsible for letting it happen and then twisting it to their desire to invade the middle east were held accountable. Is that just a pipe dream or will we ever be able to commemorate this day with a promise of peace?
