House Democrat and notable member of the squad Alexandria Ocasio Cortez voted “present” on a recent amendment to a must pass spending bill that would send an EXTRA billion dollars to Israel. This was after she initially voted no. This money would be put into Israel’s “Iron Dome,” which is a missile defense system that shoots down incoming rocket fire. This nominally defensive weapon provides Israel defense against the tiny rockets that Hamas, the Palestinian resistance organization and “terrorist” organization, will shoot at it periodically after Israel’s periodic bombing of the West Bank or Gaza.
The vote wasn’t close, the amendment sailed through with only 9 Representatives voting against it. All of the no votes came from AOCs fellow squad members like Rep. Rashia Talib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, to name a few. Why AOC voted present, when many of her fellow Squad members voted no, can only be speculated about, but AOC released a statement soon after that was a little bit … vague and weak.
