Do you remember Plandemic? According to our guests on this week’s episode of The Bitchuation Room, Derek Beres & Julian Walker of the Conspirituality podcast, it was the spark that really ignited the recent synthesis of new age medicine and the alt right.
On May 4th, 2020, a man named Mikki Willis posted a 26 minute “documentary film” to Facebook entitled “Plandemic.” It was a viral sensation on Facebook and YouTube before eventually getting deplatformed by those same companies. This video heavily featured Judy Mikovits, an anti-vaccine activist and former “research scientist.” None of the claims made in this film, or in its sequel, are grounded anywhere near reality.
The first anti-vaccine movement began the minute after the first vaccine was created, but let’s not pretend that things aren’t getting worse. “Vaccines cause autism” was birthed by fake science in the1990s, and in 2014 there was a measles outbreak in L.A. due to all the unvaccinated babies of Gwyeneth Paltrow wannabes. Still, that history pales in comparison to the present. Covid-19 has poured lighter fluid on vaccine conspiracies and folks like Mikki Willis are cashing in.
