Oil prices (at the gas pump, but not by the barrel) are at record highs in many parts of the country, Florida passes the “Don’t Say Gay” Legislation that would essentially barr educators from discussing any issues related to being LGBTQ, and the IRS is back in the front of everyones’ mind.
Why is it that it takes no time at all for gas prices to skyrocket, but when it comes to going the other direction it takes weeks and weeks? The answer is, of course, rampant speculation and market manipulation from Wall Street traders. There’s no natural law that says this is the way the world works, we’ve just come to accept that this is the way things should be.
Would it surprise you to know that the government has been starving the IRS of funding for the past few decades? For every dollar that the government gives to the IRS as funding, it gets a huge multiple back in return. In a normal, functional state, the IRS would use its money to go after large tax evaders. Unfortunately, those cases are too expensive for the IRS to litigate. Instead, it has focused its efforts on the poorest americans, who are audited at higher rates than the rest of the population.
