Numerous states across the country have begun to enact their own versions of Texas’ Supreme Court-defended effective abortion ban. Federally, Democrats have given up on enshrining abortion rights into national law, even though they’re in power, so red states are seizing the initiative and cracking down on basic healthcare for women. And with the conservative anti-choice Supreme Court in their favor, chances are many of these laws will stick.
This month alone, Kentucky banned abortions after 15 weeks, Mississippi and Louisiana banned them at 15 weeks, and Missouri is taking the cruel step of forcing women with ectopic pregnancies (fetuses developing inside of the fallopian tubes) to carry their babies, giving any women struggling with that a likely death sentence. In Idaho, much like in Texas, every citizen is now empowered to sue abortion providers for the crime of having done healthcare.
