YouTube Description
as posted by the channelLast week, Amazon workers at another distribution site on Staten Island voted on establishing the nation's second-unionized Amazon facility. Unfortunately, the workers lost and the union was defeated, but there are still plenty of lessons for Amazon Labor Union (ALU) and other organizers to learn from it, and from Amazon’s latest iteration of union busting tactics.
Throughout the run up to this vote, Amazon hired union busting consultants from white shoe law firms and other professional bootlickers to pose at workers and talk to their “colleagues” about how bad unions are. While these consultants (who are somehow able to sleep at night) worked on the ground, managers dragged worker after worker into meetings that definitely weren't about how unions are bad, actually, and that Amazon really loves you and would never want to hurt you.
The union lost this round, but the lessons ALU and other organizers will carry forward should prove useful. Organizing against one of the largest companies on Earth and one of the most powerful men in the world is no easy feat! We need to be in this for all the highs and lows, and the long haul.
