as posted by the channelHave you ever heard of prison unions? In the 1970s, there were prisoners unions in Rhode Island, Maine, and elsewhere. These unions were robust, and organized the incarcerated workers, whose interest in unionizing reached 90 percent. Unfortunately, America is gonna America. In 1977, The Supreme Court made it almost impossible for these unions to continue operating in their decision of Jones V North Carolina Prisoners’ Labor Union.
The United States used to have the strongest and most militant labor force in the country. This mostly came to an end in the 1970s with the rise of Regan and the new conservative movement, buoyed by Democrats, fundamentally shifted the power in our workplaces away from employees and workers and towards capital and management.
