South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem said “every single life is precious.” We know that they cannot say out loud what the material consequences of their “deeply held beliefs” are, because it would be abjectly horrific to anyone listening. Instead, just filibuster.
As these cases continue to happen, we aren’t going to hear a more coherent explanation than the one that Gov Noem gave. Much like how the deaths of countless victims of mass shootings are the price this country and its leaders are willing to pay for reckless gun policies, the horrors inflicted on women are the price that anti-choicers are willing to let others pay. As Lord Farquad put it in Shrek: “Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice that I am willing to make.”
Let’s be clear: when you are 10 years old, gestating a fetus is a medical risk. It has been said a million times, but it’s worth repeating a million more times, these people are pro-forced birth, not pro-life. As soon as the fetus exits: good luck to you buddy, we hope you make it. As for the mother, well, we don’t like to talk about that, next question please.
