Is Boris Johnson’s resignation a sign to U.S. Republicans to also fix their party’s leadership? Johnson, Britain’s fair haired Prime Minister (PM), is resigning. To an American audience, the things he was accused of (and guilty of) wouldn’t make it above the fold in the post-Trump era of politics, so the reactions by American commentators have been all the more amusing to watch.

Boris Johnson was the most prominent member of the British ruling class who campaigned in favor of Brexit, and many credit him with giving the campaign a veneer of institutional legitimacy as before he was a Member of Parliament, he was Mayor of London. After maneuvering himself into 10 Downing Street (the Prime Minister’s address) Boris was plagued with innumerable scandals that cut against his image as a sensible dude who gets stuff done. He is the only Prime Minister ever convicted of a crime while in office (which is pretty incredible since Parliament also oversaw the entire British Empire) and this came after he had a number of parties at the PM’s residence while it was illegal across the rest of Britain to do so. Subsequently, he promoted a known sexual predator, with full knowledge of his crimes, and eventually almost all of his cabinet resigned in protest.

In the United States, this has been reported as a pretty straightforward affair. If you were listening to NPR or Fox News, or reading the New York Times, it all seems like a pretty sober affair. One clip from Fox and Friends really caught our attention, as you could never see them having the same kind of level headedness when it comes to our former President.
