Last week, Congress held a series of hearings on the impact of the Dobbs V Jackson health ruling the Supreme Court handed down earlier this summer, which stripped the right to privacy, healthcare, and bodily autonomy from people all across the country.
During the hearings, Republicans went out of their way to show they know nothing about the human reproductive system and yet want to control it all the same. Missouri Senator Josh Hawley asked one of the witnesses, Berkeley Law Professor Khiara Bridges, a deeply transphobic line of questioning, which Bridges dealt with pretty masterfully.
Next up was United States Representative Ralph Norman, who also felt the need to deeply distort reality, asking the expert witnesses whether they “support infanticide,” which when talking about abortion rights is an absurd line of questioning. What infomercial have Republicans been watching on repeat where a new mom kills her baby after it’s been born. Why are we even entertaining these questions? As you can see, the women tasked with fielding them are not having it one bit.
